Non-County Agency Funding

New Hanover County is committed to providing financial assistance to nonprofit agencies which assist the county in carrying out its mission and strategic objectives as outlined in the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan. Non-county agency funding is distributed on an annual basis through an established process that ensures transparency, accountability, and consistency in the funding of non-county agencies. To learn more about the eligibility criteria and allocation of funding, please review the Non-County Agency Funding Policy.

Applications for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 have closed, and non-county agency funding was approved by the Board of Commissioners for FY 20-21 at the board’s June 1 meeting. A copy of the approved non-county agency funding contributions can be viewed here.

Applications for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 were open from November 15, 2019 until January 6, 2020, and applications are no longer being accepted.

Applications submitted had to reflect one or more of the county’s FY20-21 Strategic Priorities – viewed here. As a reference, application information is below.

The funding process is as follows:

  1. Non-County agencies submit an accurate application, and all its components, for funding to the county by a set deadline.
  2. Non-profit applications are evaluated by the Non-County Agency Funding Committee, which recommends agencies and funding amounts to the Board of Commissioners. Applications submitted by economic development organizations are reviewed by the county manager and then recommended to the Board of Commissioners.
  3. Final recommendations for funding are included in the County Manager’s Recommended Budget that is presented to the Board of County Commissioners.
  4. Non-County agencies approved for funding will be notified within one week of the budget adoption.
  5. Funded agencies will be required to sign a contract or memorandum of understanding and will have January 15 and July 15 reporting requirements. They will also be required to submit audited (≥ $25K received) or compiled (< $25K received), board approved, financial statements prepared by a professional.
