New Hanover County is committed to providing financial assistance to nonprofit agencies which assist the county in carrying out its mission and strategic objectives as outlined in the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan. Non-county agency funding is distributed on an annual basis through an established process that ensures transparency, accountability, and consistency in the funding of non-county agencies. Applications for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 have closed, and non-county agency funding was approved by the Board of Commissioners for FY 20-21 at the board’s June 1 meeting. A copy of the approved non-county agency funding contributions can be viewed here.
Applications for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 were open from November 15, 2019 until January 6, 2020, and applications are no longer being accepted.

The funding process is as follows:
November 15: Non-County Agency Funding Applications posted on website
January 6: Non-County Agency Funding applications due
January 17 – March 19: Non-County Agency Funding Committee deliberations
March 20: Non-County Agency Funding Committee Recommendations due
May 14: FY20-21 Recommended Budget informally presented to Board of Commissioners
May 18: FY20-21 Recommended Budget formally presented to Board of Commissioners
June 1: Public Hearing on FY20-21 Recommended Budget
June 15: Board Adopts FY20-21 Budget
The Finance Department held two training sessions for non-county agency applicants (on November 13 and 14). Executive Directors and those involved in completing the funding applications attended.
Please note, mid-year requests for funding may be recommended to the Board of County Commissioners by the County Manager or one or more commissioners at a public meeting, however mid-year requests are an exception, not the rule.
